PLATTSMOUTH - When Travis Meisinger faces trial on the assault of Tony Premo, he will have a different lawyer.

James Schaefer has asked to withdraw, according to Meisinger's new attorney Joseph Howard. Howard said Meisinger's family paid a retainer to Shaefer's law firm The prosecution intends to depose more witnesses and the family does not wish to pay the additional fees.

Cass County Attorney Nathan Cox told District Judge Randall Rehmeier that there was no objection to Schaefer's withdrawal. Cox said the matter could cause another delay in the scheduled June 10 trial date.

Meisinger, along with Joshua Hauschild and Anthony Houchin are accused of beating Tony Premo with a baseball bat Sept. 9 of last year. Premo suffered extensive injuries in the attack and is continuing to recover.
