PLATTSMOUTH - The Lincoln Sport and Parachute Club began it's fourth skydive Boogie July 17. For many, jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft is the mark of insanity. For others, it is a thrill that has to be experienced to be understood.

Dale Hanson of Carter Lake, Ia. was one of the tandem skydivers, when an experienced jumper will strap a novice to him or her with a harness and jump. Hanson took part in last year's Boogie, along with his son, Michael. This year, his father, Howard decided to make the jump.

"Last year, he (Michael) and I went," Hanson said. "That spurred a conversation and he said, 'I'd like to try that.'" Earlier in the day, Hanson's 89-year-old father jumped.

"I want to do it again," an enthusiastic Howard Hanson said.

Dale was part of the second group of divers. They climbed to about 14,000 feet before bailing out strapped to Matthew Yount of Des Moines Skydiving Club. Hanson said this was higher than they jumped from last year and the temperature at that altitude was much colder. They fell for nearly a minute before opening their parachute and glided to target area on Plattsmouth Airport landing strip.

"It was awesome," Hanson said.

Only skydivers understand why birds fly! There's not another thrill on earth like it.
