WEEPING WATER - Cass County Sheriff William Brueggemann reported two separate incidents where trains collided with vehicles.
The first took place July 21 shortly after noon near a Union Pacific private grade crossing near 156th and McKelvie and Hobscheidt roads north of Weeping Water. A Freightliner truck pulling a pup trailer crossed in front of a southbound Union Pacific train. The train struck the trailer knocking it over and heavily damaging it.
The truck was driven by Robert McKinsey, 57, of Ashland. He was not injured.
In a separate incident, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train struck an unoccupied Dodge Intrepid just before 1 a.m. July 22. The accident was at a grade crossing on Fedde Lane near the Mahoney State Park interchange under the I-80 Platte River Bridge.
Investigators say the vehicle had been driven by Andrew Shuput, 16, of Omaha. The incident remains under investigation. Alcohol may have been a factor.
