LOUISVILLE – What do you do when you’re expecting between 200 to 300 visitors to come to town?
If you’re Louisville, you throw a barbecue.
With the Eastern Nebraska Gun Club conducting its Area Three regional shooting tournament July 31 through Aug. 2, community leaders thought this might be a good idea.
Mayor Alan Mueller suggested to Businesses United in Louisville Development (BUILD) President Terri Scholting that a community barbecue would be a good local event and it could raise some money.
Scholting presented it to other members and invited Eastern Nebraska Gun Club President Chris Davies to discuss the idea.
They decided to put together the barbecue and invite the shooters Aug. 1.
The idea of having a community barbecue has been around for a long time but with the regional tournament coming to town, this seemed like the ideal opportunity to entertain shooters from all around the region and have a public event at the same time.
The barbecue will get underway at 4 p.m. and last until its over.
"I’m looking forward to something involving the entire community," Scholting said. "BUILD has been working hard to come up with fundraising for new holiday lights. This provides us with a great opportunity to come together as a group, help promote our town and raise money. It will be fun."
The barbecue will be at the Home State Bank parking lot and there will also be a beer garden.
The event will go to purchasing new holiday lights for Main Street businesses.
