Cecil John Klein, 80, of Union died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at home.
He was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Omaha to John Leonard and Pearl Esther (Waters) Klein.
On Aug. 19, 1972, he married Mary Maxine Miller in Omaha.
Cecil lived in Papillion until age 6 when the Kleins moved to the Union area and farmed. He attended school in Union, graduating from Union High School with the Class of 1945. He met and married Catherine Alice Kafka on Oct. 2, 1950, in Plattsmouth.
From 1951 to 1953, during the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Army. Then he returned to Union where he farmed and was a seed corn salesman. Catherine passed away in 1970. He met and married Mary M. Miller in 1972; she passed away May 12, 1998. Cecil lived most of his life on the farm east of Union.
He was a member of Robert Bernard Roddy American Legion Post 235 of Union, Rural Water District 1 and the Cass County Weed Board.
Survivors include his dear friend of many years, Mrs. Melba Leete of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jeff Keyser, Southlake, Texas; stepsons, Mark and wife Lorraine Smith, Plattsmouth; Jerry and wife Catherine Smith, Union; stepdaughter, Anne and husband Ray Benck, Omaha; five grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Aufenkamp, Union; Esther, Drake, Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Marcene Klein, Plattsmouth; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and both wives.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at Church of the Holy Spirit, Plattsmouth, with Fathers Peter Amaladoss, Patrick O’Byrne and Michael McCabe officiating. Organist, Laurie Hajek-Jones; vocal music, Terry Little; acolyte, Lynn Vinduska; lector, Fred Ulrich.
Pallbearers: Tim Aufenkamp, Brian Drake, Greg Drake, Cecil Ray Klein, George Klein, Joe Klein, John Klein, Lewis Klein, Mike Klein and Jimmy Lee. Altar boys: Jason Curtis, Josh Curtis, Alex Hajek-Jones, Jamar Jones and Jemel Jones.
He was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Plattsmouth, with military rites performed by Lepert Wolever VFW Post 2543 of Plattsmouth and Robert Bernard Roddy American Legion Post 235 of Union.
