Clarence Henry Schmadeke, 93, Lincoln, died Monday, June 30. Born July 3, 1914, in Bradish to Carl and Anna (Hefti) Schmadeke. Graduate, Newman Grove High School, 1932. 1943 graduate of University of Nebraska with B.S. in Agronomy. Officer in United States Navy, 1943 - 46, with service in Pacific.
On Oct. 23, 1943, the day he received his commission as an Ensign in the U. S. Navy, he married the former Eva Lauree Vestal of Lovewell, Kan., at Riverside Church in New York City. Upon returning from military service, he worked as a County Agricultural Extension Agent in Cass County (living in Weeping Water) for 33 years before retiring in 1979 and moving to Lincoln in 1980.
He was a long-time adult chaperone for 4-H members at Aksarben events, the Nebraska State Fair and summer camps; Kass Kounty Korn Karnival King in 1963; former President of the Nebraska Extension Agents Association; usher at Cornhusker football and basketball games and a member of Eastridge Presbyterian Church, Lincoln.
Survivors include: wife, Eva; daughter, son-in-law, Marilyn and Jim Rembolt, Lincoln; daughter, son-in-law, Linda and Leo Stander, Cary, N. C.; daughter, Joyce Furry, Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Debbie Schmadeke; brother Carl, Cornelius, Ore.; and sister, Gretchen Landen, Albion; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by parents; brothers Herman and Melvin; sister, Anna Adamson.
Private interment. Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Monday July 7, at Eastridge Presbyterian Church, 1135 Eastridge Drive, Lincoln.
No visitation.
